The Humanitarian Coordinator of the Saharun is the African Hungarian Association.
Our shared motto „We can achieve more!”
Each year the Saharun’s objective is to help the needy in African countries that are on the rally’s route. It is up to the conscience of each team what and how much of it to bring, but naturally a recommended list of contributions shall be available soon under the Charity menu item. The shipping of charitable contributions will not be a problem in 2011 either, as once again Jozsef Kadar joined with our charitable drive, meaning the Kádár Sped, so once again this year we will try to collect a truck's worth of charitable contributions - we thank them in advance for their kindness!
At the focal point of the Saharun 2011 charity is the assistance of Tunisian blind and visually handicapped people. One of the fundamental pillars of our program is Sandor Karvai, a blind navigator, who entered our 2011 rally in the race category, along with his family. Following the rally finish Sanyi shall award the ambulance we used during the really to the Elementary School of the Tunisian Blind. One of the crucial elements of the charity is the organisation of an automotive event for blind children, where with the assistance of an interpreter Sanyi can have a conversation about the experience of being blind and local students can also try out what it's like to drive.
In addition to helping the blind, it is important to improve the supply of eye drops in the region and to reduce the number of sand-derived ocular diseases..
The situation of the blind and visually challenged is an important problem and a particularly great one in Tunisia. It was in Tunis where the Central Organisation of African Blind and Visually Impaired was established in 1987; in 2009 in Rome the National Union of the Blind of Tunisia – UNAT – received an award for its social contributions. A recent news item is that on May 31, 2010, it was Tunisia which received the honour of the vice-presidency of the Francophone Union of the Blind in Montreal, once again placing a central focus on the necessity of improving the medical and social situation of Tunisian blind people.
Don’t forget: „We can achieve more!”
