Compared to races we have organised in the past, we have changed the categories. The biggest change is that we treat the motorcycle/quad competitors. We have simplified their duties and their applicable rules and regulations as the mandatory protective gear makes the acquisition of points more difficult and because the physical stress per person is extremely strenuous for them.
Over the course of the rally, the racers of the two advertised categories (Race and Adventure Categories) shall traverse identical routes.
We have introduced the concept of optional routes (complete route/only Africa) by which there is a chance to start racing in only Africa.
Race Category
Automobile entrants (2wd, 4wd, truck)
Orientation, skills and logistics competition, over the course of which the participants may collect points by solving the following tasks:
- Geocaching: on the basis of coordinates or text based descriptions, the resolution of tasks must be sought.
- Skill: task which may be resolved via teamwork or by individual effort
- Navigation, closed circuit and average speed special
-
Performance within a limited time period
Time only matters when maintaining average speed or in the case of closed circuit time trials. The race is not a struggle against time. The evaluation of the racers is conducted via a GPS logger and by the evaluation of the daily race certificate, with a daily announcement of results.
Within the automotive category, as long as at least three start on the rally from a given vehicle type (2wd, factory 4wd, constructed 4wd, truck, etc.) their performance shall also be evaluated within the vehicle category!
The entry fee includes:
- payment for organisational and associated administrative tasks
- route preparation, the placement of the assigned tasks
- the drafting of itineraries and race certificates, their conveyance
- the permit proceeding
- the organisation of the charitable program
- the organisation of the mobile and lodging-based medical treatment
- participant and vehicle identifiers
- TC rental fee
- evaluation of race certificates and route results
- certification, memorial plaque issued for completing the rally
- prize awards by category
Motorcycle/Quad racers

- Orientation, closed circuit and average speed maintenance specials
- Performance within a time limit
The evaluation of the racers is performed by GPS logger and by the evaluation of the daily race certificate, with a daily announcement of results.
Two riders/quad drivers may form a team, over the course of the evaluation we separately award individual and team accomplishments.
The entry fee in this category includes:
- payment for organisational and associated administrative tasks
- route preparation, the placement of the assigned tasks
- the drafting of itineraries and race certificates, their conveyance

Adventure Category
The participants can get to the end-point of the daily stages by way of orientation points. On their way they get a sampling of the racers' challenges, but they themselves perform the evaluation on the basis of the answer key issued each day. The daily stages are identical to the race stages, but there is an opportunity to tour around or to reach the evening's destination through an easier, alternative route.
In this category the entry fee includes:
- payment for organisational and associated administrative tasks
- route preparation, the placement of the assigned tasks
- the drafting of itineraries and race certificates, their conveyance
- the permit proceeding
- the organisation of the charitable program
- the organisation of the mobile and lodging-based medical treatment
- participant and vehicle identifiers
- certification, memorial plaque issued for completing the rally
Category participants may not cooperate with racers and may not assist in resolving challenges. In the event that such cooperation is ascertained, the teams affected shall be ejected from the rally.
Only Africa route
We established this opportunity for those racers who:
- do not consider an automobile assisted trip and challenges in Europe a true challenge,
- would rather not freeze to death on a motorcycle/quad,
- due to lack of time cannot participate in the entire rally, but would like to join up for the African leg. We will help transport their vehicle to Africa.
In the case of the Only Africa route, the mandatory administrative procedure will thake place in Africa, after the arrival of the vehicle and the team members. Based on the evaluation of their results we draft a combined and an Only Africa list as well!
